Remittances from Mexicans abroad broke a new record in August with a total of 4.744 billion dollars, the Bank of Mexico reported.
The bank reported that remittances began to be registered in 1995, something that had not been done before, and a sum as high as this had not been received since that year. This amount is 4.4 percent higher than that reported in July: 4.54 billion dollars.
In August, remittances rose by 32.7 percent compared to the same period in 2020. This has been the fourth time so far this year that remittances to Mexico have exceeded their historical peak (also in March, May and July).
From January to August, the report of the central bank adds, remittances sent to the country, especially from Mexicans who live in the United States, have amounted to 32.931 billion dollars, that is, 24.8 percent more than the same period last year (25.395 billion dollars).
