UNWTO in Madrid asks to rebuild and look to the future

The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) said that two years of pandemic have caused enough suffering to people, society as a whole and the economy.

In a communiqué from its headquarters in Madrid, the UNWTO sentenced that the time has come to turn the page without neglecting the aftermath of Covid-19.

“We cannot allow this to continue. We must rebuild and look to the future with hope, not fear,” it stressed.

The UN body stressed that peace and mutual understanding are essential ingredients for recovery.

“Now is the time for us to work together, and it is the time for diplomacy not conflict. We must not allow political tensions to become a crisis that undermines our collective progress,” he added.

The UNWTO also considered that tourism is the main bridge to understanding; it has a unique capacity to promote peace among peoples around the world.

It added his unrestricted support to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, in its call for all countries to resolve disputes by peaceful means and not through conflict, and to respect international security and justice at all times.

“UNWTO is convinced that the spirit of international solidarity and the shared values that define not only tourism, but also humanity as a whole, must prevail,” he concluded.
