The Russian capital won the Leading Urban Destination of Europe and Leading City of Europe Tourism Office awards at the World Travel Awards 2021, known as the ‘Oscars of the tourism industry’, local media highlighted.
Considered the most prestigious awards in travel and entertainment industry, Moscow competed for the first prize with Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Geneva, Lyon, Lisbon, London, Rome, St. Petersburg, Venice and Vienna, which were nominated in this category.
This metropolis conquered the same award last year, while St. Petersburg won them in 2019 and 2017.
This time, the beautiful Russian port city, once the capital of the Tsar, was considered the Top Heritage Destination in Europe, beating Paris, Amsterdam, Athens, Berlin, Venice, Florence, Edinburgh, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
At the same time, St. Petersburg took the title of Europe’s Leading Urban Holiday Destination and Europe’s Leading Marketing Campaign in 2021, according to the awards website (https://www.worldtravelawards.com/).
From Russia, also Aeroflot, its main flying company, won the status of best Leading Airline Brand in Europe, over Air France, British Airways, Iberia, Icelandair, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Lufthansa, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, SWISS, TAP Air Portugal and Turkish Airlines.
Moscow’s Lotte Hotel was voted Europe’s top luxury hotel, while the Swissotel Krasnie Holmi, another of the capital’s gems, was named Europe’s top luxury business hotel.
Created in 1993, the World Travel Awards recognize the work carried out in the travel industry worldwide with the aim of stimulating competitiveness and quality in the sector.
