“It helps kids fight through and survive debilitating diseases like cancer, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia as well as their work in early diagnosis of autism and spinal cord injuries is second to none! And as the leading not for profit hospital in our area they depend on sponsorships and donations to continue their leading-edge care and to keep family’s expenses to a minimum”
Lucila also told the story on why she helps sick kids:
“Some years ago, a good friend’s 9 year old daughter got very sick to the point where they didn’t know if she would survive. It was a very rare virus that was attacking her internal organs one by one. While in Mexico, she took her to different hospitals and tried everything they could to save the girl’s life. She was getting worse and when the virus attacked her heart the doctors urged my friend to bring her daughter to Canada and it was specifically to the Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. I went to the airport to pick them up, there were no ambulances available at the hospital that could offer that service. I had to accommodate my car for the girl to be able to lay down and have everything she needed just to get to the hospital. After about 2 months that she arrived at the hospital the doctors were able to let her go back home to Ottawa where they lived and for the next 2 years she had to come back for treatments and follow up.
“I have learned that it is a collection of hardworking health care professionals, here in the GTA area, all coming together for a common cause. That cause is to help young people overcome health issues that life sometimes throws our way. I take pride in supporting in a way that I can see the good work these people do at Sick Kids Hospital. I am very proud to help and donate a portion of my income to help Sick Kids Hospital in their quest to heal young people.
